The EBO Story
You’re probably wondering what “Everyone By One” means.
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, all children should see the dentist by Age One. At the Age One visit, your child may have no teeth or 8 teeth! But as our mission states, and rather than just being here to take care of toothaches, our practice believes that education is a big part of the equation to prevent problems from arising. We know how hard it can be being a parent: full schedules, less sleep, long days…we get it! We are parents too! We want to partner with families making it simple and practical to get your child on the right track towards a healthy and happy smile!
A little about Dr. Chung and Dr. Kim.
Our friendship goes way back to when we were in the 2nd grade! We attended the same high school and college and continued on to pursue pediatric dental training at the same time but on opposite coasts of the country. During these years of training, we always made time to remind one another of our dreams. We LOVE family. We LOVE teeth. We LOVE what we do. You might find us at the local Starbucks brainstorming ideas of how to make every patient encounter fun and meaningful. It is SO important to us that kids have a great view of the dentist.
We are also BIG on prevention, education and on initiatives that help better the world. We LOVE clean water. As parents and children begin to learn about nutrition and good dental habits, we get excited when kids return with a clean bill of health. We believe that in greater access to care and equipping our families at an earlier age, MORE children would need LESS dental work in the long run. This means less school days missed, less days off from work, and most importantly, healthy smiles!
EBO is a philosophy made REAL in our dental practice. It is a movement for healthy kids, a world where every child has the opportunity to be happy and healthy, and to use good oral health habits as a gateway to exceptional overall wellness.
So simply put, Everyone By One.
We hope to see you soon!
The EBO Approach
The approach begins with getting a child to EBO by Age One. Here they learn what a dental practice is all about, and how regular dental checkups actually do rate in importance somewhere between birthday parties and roller coasters. We teach with a method called “tell-show-do” and we tell, show and do very honestly (because kids have a way of seeing through anything less). This instills trust in the doctor-child relationship, and gives the child a vested interest in his or her own health.
Parental presence may be necessary for the first couple of visits, but in time your child will be ready to do it on their own (independence is one of the things we value most around here). And while you sit back and wait comfortably in the front, we’ll be teaching your kids how to properly care for their teeth. Then afterwards, we’ll share those lessons with you, so we’re all on the same page when it comes to keeping your child healthy and happy.
We communicate on every level. Through digital newsletters, e-mail, websites, Facebook, Twitter and, of course, the best mode of communication ever invented…talking. We talk about lots of things like nutrition, good and bad oral health habits, or maybe even the score of a football game. But basically, anything and everything that has to do with you child’s overall health is fair game. And don’t apologize for your questions…bring ‘em on. From basic to complex, we try to deliver the answers in an easy, fun, and most importantly, positive manner.
Then we all get together again at least every six months to make sure your child is staying on a healthy track. And by the way, don’t be at all surprised if your kids start looking forward to check ups…stranger things have happened.
(By the way, if your child is 1 year and 2 months, 1 year and 6 months, or even 3 and a half, no worries, it’s never too late to get started. We love kids of all ages.)
